As a native Austinite, Lynley spent many years soaking up all that a small big town had to offer. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, with a degree in Communication Studies, she felt the need to see the world. She moved to London and worked in Marketing, all the while adding stamps to her passport. A 6-month work visa wasn’t enough, so she was off to Australia where she lived in Melbourne and worked in Sales. An incredible experience as a young adult.
She returned to Austin and worked with BusinessWeek magazine in print and online sales. She became involved in the Young Women’s Alliance, a professional organization for women, where she eventually became President. Since one of her favorite things to do is eat and cook, she started Austin Fine Dining Association (AFDA), a dining group with friends, eventually becoming a short-lived Food Blogger!
After a change in the economy, Lynley pivoted her career to Event Planning and Project Management. After working with an experiential marketing agency, handling major events for IBM for 5 years, she decided to go off on her own. FIG Marketing and Events, LLC was born. Working with PR firms, political groups, business consultants and churches, Lynley created unique experiences, products and organized system for a variety of clients.
She joined the New Milestones Foundation (now Integral Care Foundation) in 2015. Integral Care Foundation raises funds and awareness for adults and children living with mental illness, substance use disorder and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Lynley is highly motivated to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness in any capacity possible.
Love brought Lynley and her 12-year-old Dalmatian/Blue Heeler dog Winston to Uvalde! Her boyfriend Catlin grew up here. His parents, Jackie and Jimmy Rutherford, ran the Purple Sage Dance Hall for over 20 years. After Jimmy was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, Lynley and Catlin decided to make Uvalde home. They lost Jimmy to the horrible disease, but are grateful to establish roots here and in the area, in honor of him.
